Piezo haptic driver delivers tactile feedback for driver safety

The Boréas Technologies BOS1211 CapDrive piezo haptic driver. The driver is a scalable, low-power piezo haptic controller based on patented CapDrive technology. It allows automotive OEMs and tier-one suppliers to add highly responsive, tactile feedback to buttons and sliders on displays and other HMI.

low-distortion waveforms. It features a piezo-sensing interface that detects pressure on the piezo actuator, plays automatic haptic waveform feedback, and notifies the user. Piezo haptic buttons, supported by the device, improve on older haptic technologies, supplying faster response times and an extended frequency range compared to LRAs. Tactile feedback from Piezo haptic buttons lets drivers confirm button presses without looking away from the road, improving driver safety.

The driver runs waveforms through an integrated digital front-end and SPI interface. The interface integrates 1024-sample internal FIFO, a waveform synthesizer, and 2KB of RAM for waveform memory. It is delivered in a wettable flank QFN-24 package, providing a space-efficient solution for haptic applications. The device is AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualified.
